Stem Cell Research and Therapy

Stem cells are cells with self-renewal and multiple differentiation potential properties in the human body and have the potential function of regenerating various tissues and organs and the human body. They are called the “all-purpose cells” in medical fields.

Stem cells are mainly derived from embryos, fetal tissue (umbilical cord blood, umbilical cord, amniotic membrane, etc.), bone marrow, tooth pulp, and adipose tissue, etc.

Under certain circumstances, stem cells can be induced to differentiate into more than 220 types of functional cells that make up the human body, such as a neuron, hepatocytes (liver cells), and cardiomyocytes (heart cells). Stem cells are the source cells that form all kinds of tissues and organs in our body.

Stem cell implants therapy is a set of well-established processes from extracting the cells to transplant cells into patients’ bodies, usually including the following steps, stem cell extraction, in vitro stem cell culture and expansion, induced differentiation, and finally transplant of the new, healthy, and younger stem cells into patients’ body with special techniques.

The transplanted stem cells will replace cells that were lost through apoptosis (normal cell death) or necrosis(abnormal cell death), thus restoring homeostasis in the body. Recently, there has been more and more successful cases of treating various of disease with stem cell therapy all over the world.

How Does Stem Cell Therapy Work

The major mechanism of stem cell therapy is that stem cells will migrate to the injured/damaged tissue or organ with their homing effect once transplanted into the patient’s body, then they will differentiate into functional cells to repair the damaged tissue and regulate the immuno-microenvironment to further facilitate tissue regeneration. Stem cell biotechnology therapy can be utilized to treat various diseases, such as neural system diseases, endocrine system diseases, bone diseases, cardiovascular/cerebrovascular diseases, and autoimmune diseases.
