Welcome to a laptop battery specialist of the dell laptop battery
Most consumer PCs running a flavor of Linux didn’t come that way — they likely ran Windows before being switched over to everyone’s favorite open source operating system. Dell has been offering a handful of laptops with Linux pre-installed over the years, but the new Spunik 3 with battery such as dell 2941E battery , dell 9943E battery , dell Inspiron 7100 battery , dell Inspiron 7500 battery , dell Inspiron 7000 battery , dell 2M400 battery , dell 5208U battery , dell XPS M1210 battery , dell UD265 battery , dell Inspiron 3700 battery , dell XPS L702X battery , dell JWPHF battery has a lot more going for it than just the cool name. This is a powerful machine with an Intel Haswell processor and Ubuntu Linux, but it isn’t cheap.
Sadly, Sputnik 3 is just the codename of the device. If you go to buy the Linux machine from Dell, you’ll see that it’s more properly known as the XPS 13 Developer Edition. The machine comes in two configurations with the base model starting at $1,249. That hefty price gets you a dual-core Intel Core i5-4200U CPU, 8GB of RAM, a 128GB SSD, and a 13.3-inch 1080p touchscreen LCD.
The more expensive SKU is $1,549 and comes with a Core i7-4500U, 8GB of RAM, a 256GB SSD, and the same 13.3-inch 1080p touchscreen. These are definitely not low-cost Linux laptops, but you’re getting your money’s worth here.
Both versions of this laptop ship with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, which stands for Long Term Support. This build of Ubuntu focuses on stability and security updates, and is separate from the main arm, which continues to iterate every six months. Sputnik 3 is completely open, so you can put a newer regular version of Ubuntu on it, or install a completely different OS. However, the drivers included with the LTS build of Ubuntu have been built specifically to support the hardware in the new developer edition laptop.
Both variants of the XPS 13 Developer Edition laptop are available for purchase today in the US, but won’t ship until December 17th. Canada will get a crack at Sputnik 3 next week, and Europe gets its turn in December.
