(スーパーマン添削後)

Although there is a plentiful supply of water in Japan,

this is not the case in many developing countries. To

make matters worse, the population in these countries

is expected to increase rapidly in the future. Meeting

the world demand for water is a serious challenge.

We can address the challenge in three areas. First, we

must improve the infrastructure to provide safe,

drinkable water. In some countries, children die from

drinking untreated water. A developed country like Japan

should play a leading role in sharing the advanced

technology with the governments of these countries.

Second, we must conserve the amount of water used

in agriculture, which is currently heavy in usage of water.

As long as use of water in agriculture remains at the

current level, a serious water shortage may ensure in the

coming years. A more water-saving agricultural practice

is called for.

Third, we must address the impending climate change.

Unless appropriate domestic and international measures

are adopted to arrest the pace of global warming., the

incidence of drought or deforestation may rise with

serious implications for water availability.

Though the world faces many challenges, the water crisis

should receive the highest priority. Both the governments

and the people must be actively engaged to respond to

this challenge.
