Rhoda Brook is a “thin and worn” milkmaid, working at a rich man Lodge’s farm. She has a boy of 12 years old and lived separately from other milkmaids.
One day, the famer Lodge came back to his farm with his new wife, Gertrude. She is young and pretty. Not long after, an illusion of Gertrude appears to Rhoda and makes her suffer. So eventually Rhoda pulled the illusion down by grasping its hand. Then, strangely Gertrude’s hand begins to wither….
