Four strings players gathered at winter Karuizawa to collaborate as a Quartet. They were strangers to each other till happen to see at a Karaoke box recently. There, they found they had much in common and agreed to make a Quartet. So they started living together in a villa which Beppu rents from his grandfather. Only Maki has to go home sometimes because she is married one. Curious to say, though, there is even no shadow of “husband” at her flat.
One day, Beppu got good news that live restaurant Nocturne may offer stage for music performance in every weekend. It turned out, however, the information was incorrect. Benjamin Takita, “the pianist, 9 months to live” occupied the stage. This man had told about himself as “9 months to live” 5 years ago as well… At first glance, Maki found that Benjamin is lying. So she told the truth to the restaurant owner that he is deceiving everybody just for his life. Benjamin lost the job and the quartet got the position, instead.
Members of quartet, except Maki, surprised at her and started to argue over what they had to do to with the pianist. Maki said calmly “Everyone pursuit their dream and learn the lesson of their limitation. Sooner or later, they have to decide whether they do music as hobby or still chasing it as their dream. He was the man who wanted to be a pianist even deceiving people around him. So we, standing in same position as he, don’t need to take pity on him.”
“But you have a husband and home to go back. What do you think of that?” asked Suzume with slightly defiant attitude. Maki replied “Husband is a family member only possible to being separate” and confessed that her husband disappeared 1 year ago.
