The weight places the new iPad in between the original iPad and the iPad 2. However, the new iPad is still significantly slimmer than the first iPad, which was half an inch thick.

The battery capacity of the new iPad is 70 percent higher than for the iPad 2.

The new iPad will go on sale on March 16 in the U.S., Australia , Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore, Switzerland, United Kingdom and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Winship said he hopes all 77 workers will be recalled in six months, but that depends on the orders the company receives.

Sales of electric-hybrid vehicles have disappointed some alternate energy advocates. Last week, for example, General Motors told 1,300 employees at its Detroit Hamtramck facility that they will be laid off for five weeks as the company stops production of its electric-hybrid Chevrolet Volt and its European match, the Opel Ampera.

Angeles Health initiated the Adult Autologous Stem Cell (A-ASC) Therapy program to manage a variety of syndromes, including COPD. Like many other conditions COPD is treated using autologous adult stem cells. These are harvested from the patient themselves. There is very little chance of a patient’s body rejecting the stem cells for this reason.

Angeles hospital applies stem cells that are from the patient’s bone marrow and adipose tissue, or fat. As adipose tissue extraction is more beneficial than bone marrow extraction, due to the tissue producing up to ten times more stem cells, it is much more commonly used. Bone marrow extraction is also a more difficult endeavor generally.

As a result, the screen on the device is absolutely stunning. The retooled Apple-developed applications and icons really do pop on this screen. When you are looking at Web pages or books, text just looks smooth and clean — it’s almost a bit surreal how clear it is. Think of a glowing piece of paper, and you’re getting there. Games look great, too, though most titles haven’t been updated for the new resolution yet. Just as when I first saw the iPhone 4 display .?

As I said, the new iPad is physically similar to the last model, though it carries a slight bit more weight (an almost imperceptible .11 pounds) and is a tiny bit thicker (0.37 inches compared with the older version’s 0.34-inch profile). You probably won’t notice it in your hands, and luckily, if you’re upgrading from the previous model, your old accessories will work just fine.

Even assessing cellphone-battery life has become trickier . In the old days, voice-call "talk time" was pretty much all that mattered. But today, people use the devices for a variety of tasks, including voice calls, Web browsing, playing local or remote audio and video, running apps, and gaming. The battery drain varies, depending on factors such as the kind of connection or how far you are from a cellular tower.

Now, Motorola has introduced a 4G Android smartphone on Verizon Wireless that seeks to erase battery worries. It is called the Droid Razr Maxx and it attacks the power problem with a huge battery almost twice the capacity of the one in the company's similar Droid Razr, and more than double the capacity of the one iPhone 4S.

I've been testing the Droid Razr Maxx, which has been out since late January, and found it delivers far greater battery life than any smartphone on which I've run battery tests. In one test, it lasted more than 20 hours in mixed, moderate use, including voice calls, video playback, and lots of Web and apps usage, plus downloading hundreds of emails. I also conducted a simulated, continuous test voice call, which the phone powered through for more than 20 hours before dying. And it played videos back to back for more than 14 hours before the battery gave up.

Like some other Motorola phones, the Maxx can be used with an optional $250 dock that resembles a laptop. When docked, it can run the Firefox Web browser. Motorola is committed to this idea, but, so far, consumers seem unmoved.

I found the Maxx to be a reliable phone. In tests around Washington , D.C., it didn't drop a single call, voice quality was good in both regular and speakerphone mode, and Verizon's LTE 4G network was very fast, typically delivering download speeds of 13 or 14 megabits per second, better than many home wired services.

Like other hybrids, the?Honda Civic Hybrid?relies on a battery system that gives the gasoline engine an extra boost in efficiency . These energy cells recharge while driving, but lose capacity over time. Now a class action lawsuit alleges that Civic Hybrids from the years 2006 to 2008 had shoddy batteries that reduced their fuel economy from the promised 50 miles per gallon to 30 m.p.g. within just a few years.

How long should such a battery last? Hybrid owners already pay a premium for their fuel efficiency. Replacing the battery midway through the life of the vehicle would tack on an additional $2,000 to $4,000.

n some cases, old hybrids show no signs of aging. Last year,?Consumer Reports?compared a 2002 Prius with 206,000 miles with the results that it had collected 10 years earlier on a nearly identical 2001 Prius that had only 2,000 miles. There was barely any difference in fuel efficiency. The near-mint 2001 model had logged 40.6 m.p.g., while the aging 2002 Prius averaged 40.4 m.p.g.

So why are hybrid batteries sprightly after a decade, while laptop batteries start wheezing within just a few years? The chemistry is different – but in some ways, humans are to blame.

"Generally, when you're charging your device battery, you're charging it to 100 percent," says Mr. Berman, "and you're depleting it to zero percent. Right? That is the worst thing you can do for the longevity of the battery."

Hybrids come with software that purposely stops the battery from charging once it hits about 80 percent of full capacity. Similarly, the battery will say it's empty when it falls to about 20 percent. The exact numbers are company secrets, but the point remains: By undertaxing their batteries, hybrids ensure longer life spans. (Some gadget gurus suggest a stricter "40/80" rule for laptops and phones. Of course, that limits the usefulness of a single charge in exchange for long-term gains.)

The company invested $A100 million ($105.6 million) to build a lithium carbonate plant, which started production on Wednesday in Zhangjiagang, Jiangsu province. The new plant has an annual production capacity of 17,000 tons of lithium carbonate, the largest in the Asia-Pacific region so far.

Galaxy already has 34,000 tons of spodumene, a source of lithium, stockpiled at the Jiangsu Lithium Carbonate Plant and another 20,000 tons at a nearby port.

Lithium carbonate is used in lithium-ion batteries, which in turn go into mobile phones, computers and electric vehicles.

"The growing number of electric bicycles in China will create huge demand for lithium batteries," said Iggy Tan, managing director of Galaxy Resources.

He said that 20 million to 30 million electric bicycles are sold in the nation annually, and more than 90 percent of them use lead-acid cells. Only 3 percent use lithium batteries, which demonstrates the huge potential for growth.

The average annual growth rate of lithium carbonate use in China is about 25 percent, mainly driven by mobile phones and other electronic devices.

However, a single electric car's battery capacity is equal to the capacity of 1,000 iPad batteries, which shows that the growing use of alternative-fuel vehicles will greatly boost the demand for lithium batteries.

Tan said even though the electric vehicle market is still five to 10 years from maturity, the demand and opportunities are real. Thus, the company's next plan is to open a lithium battery factory in China.

It was unknown why Kutney was abusing the bird, which was taken to the Florida Keys Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals for rehabilitation.

When Kutney was placed into handcuffed and police began to search him, he apparently had a wardrobe malfunction, according to the report.

"As I pinned Kutney to the side of the van, his shorts fell down to his ankles," the report said. "Kutney was not wearing any underwear at that time."

Kutney was being held without bond Wednesday, according to Monroe County Sheriff's Office jail records. It was unknown whether he has an attorney.
