飼い猫

飼い猫のわさびが、昨日の昼に吐いてから、夕方、夜、朝と吐いていなかったので、「病院に行かなくても大丈夫かな」と思っていたら、昼に吐きました。病院に連絡しました。「午後5時半頃来てくれ。それまでは、水もご飯も、与えないように」と言われました。

わさびが、私の部屋に来て、一生懸命、私を呼びます。見ると、お腹を上にして横たわり、じっと私を見ています。お腹が空いてたまらないとき、彼は、そのポーズをとります。こうすると、必ず、ご飯にありつけるのです。
私は、出勤のため、階段を降ります。ご飯をもらえると信じて疑わない、わさびの足音が、私を追ってくるのが聞こえました。
私は、後ろを見ることができませんでした。

飼い猫の病気

私の飼い猫は、IBDという病気を患っています。
完治することはないそうで、一見健康そうに見えますが、徐々に体力を失っていくそうです。

どうも、この子の病気は、私が本来受けるべきだった罰を、身代わりに受けているような気がしてなりません。
あるいは、この子を苦しめることが、私にとっての一番の罰であるから、こうなっているようにも思います。

「私が死んだら、この子はよくなるのではないか…」と、半ば真剣に考えることもあります。
