After undergoing season-ending surgery last week, Chicago White Sox catcher Max Stassi will have to wait until next season to return to the big leagues. According to the team's report, Stassi underwent a left hip surfacing treatment in a New York hospital, ruling him out for the remainder of the 2024 season.

Stassi, who missed the entire season last year due to a hip injury, was acquired from the Atlanta Braves in an offseason deal. He attempted to make the roster, but was placed on the disabled list in late March due to left hip irritation. He returned to the organization briefly on a rehab assignment with the Triple-A Charlotte Knights, going 1-for-11 with two walks and three runs scored in five games before suffering a setback and being placed on the 60-day injured list.

In his most recent major league season, Stassi hit nine home runs and drove in 30 RBI with the Los Angeles Angels in 2022. The White Sox will feel his loss, forcing them to look elsewhere for catching depth as the season progresses.
