I got news from the University concerning my placement test. It wasn't perfect but it was good enough for me to skip the beginner's class. However, registration is already closed for this semester so I have to wait for next semester しょぼん
But I won't wait until then anyway, I bought some more books and will get down to it right away.

However, from now on people will ask even more why I am learning Japanese. I am not planning to go to Japan real soon so I realized it could seem weird to study Japanese when my girlfriend asked me why suddenly I wanted to study seriously. (Though I think she was just being jealous of my Japanese friends!)
It's a tricky question, because there's never only one reason, it's always a complex mix of various reasons.

So what is the best reason?
I am not a manga fan, I never read any, so I cannot use that as a reason.
I now love Japan culture, but I started to learn about it only a bit before starting to learn Japanese.
I don't travel. I would like to, but I am still studying and waiting after I get my diploma.

So what am I to say? What would be the best reason for me?
I know I should be the best person to answer this question, but I am still there, thinking about it.

I think from now on I will say that it's because "Japanese is a difficult language to learn for a foreigner and I wanted a good personal challenge". What do you think?
Yesterday night I did a Japanese placement test.

I learned with computers and friends until now but I think it is time I take a real class. ひらめき電球

I contacted the Japanese teacher at my university and asked him which class I should attend.
So he sent me a placement test to see what level I should go in. グッド!
The complete test was written in Japanese: hiragana and katakana mostly, only 4 or 5 kanji.

I realized I never really read Japanese, mainly because of kanji...
But I took my courage in both hands and forced myself into reading the test.
It was hard for me, but I finally made it! にひひ

I hope I did good, I hope I can directly go to Level 2 so I can learn harder things now.

If you have suggestions about easy things I could read to get better, I would appreciate.
I've been webdesigning for many years so when I learned there was a iGoogle theme design api, I thought I would give it a try. I came up with something a little geeky/techy but also round and glossy. Simple, but I still like it. It's popular in the English iGoogle community and on the 2nd page of the "most users".

You can find it here: iGoogle theme page

Thanks!
