It really takes time to acquire English as a second langauge. There is no evidence that shows how long it takes to improve English skills. Some experts estimate that 10,000 hours is necessary to reach the highest level. According to the book I read recently, it takes 2,000 hours to start to improve the skills and test scores. In Japan, people learn English for around 700 hours in total from elementary schools through universities. There are a lot of books which advocate learners can become fluent speakers within a few weeks. Unfortunately, most people or some people, I'm not sure, believe there are easy ways to improve English. However, research shows it is impossible to acquire the second language in a short period of time. If we had easy ways to improve English, we would meet people who speak English fluently anywhere throughout Japan. I have never met such kinds of people. "The belief" that we can easily acquire English is the most dangerous.

Keep using English. That's the only way to improve your English.
