Extra omnes

This is the summary of yesterday, when the conclave has begun.
In the morning, in the Saint Peter Basilica, the Cardinals celebrated the messa pro eligendo Pontifice (mass for the election of the Pope). In the afternoon, all the Cardinals went into the Cappella Sistina, crossing halls full of beautiful marble and paintings, under the gaze of the Swiss Guards. Here they swore in latin to do their duty and to keep the secret about the conclave with the formula spondeo, voveo ac iuro (I promise, I vow and I swear). At the end of the ceremony, the master of ceremonies said extra omnes (everyone out), and all people except voting cardinals had to left the cappella. Then the master closed the door of the cappella, and the last thing we could see was the Michelangelo's Giudizio Universale on the background.

Found the photo of the Swiss Guard in full red velvet uniform!

An Italy-Japan parallelism

Thing is, if I would like to talk about every single thing I like or find interesting, I should blog every single time of my life - and know English way better than I do. Also, to discover every single interesting thing in this world, I'd need a tons of lifes - or I should use a vampire existence.
Said that, today I feel I need to do an Italy-Japan parallelism, because while doing my movie list, I discovered that Nagisa Oshima died just two months ago. He was the director of one of my favourite movie ever of which I should have already speak, Furyo (Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence).

Now there are two writers I feel related in Italy and Japan, Pier Paolo Pasolini (1922-1975) and Yukio Mishima (1925-1970). Actually I don't know very much about them, except that their stories investigated degradation and perversion of the human being.
During high-school my Italian teacher, who enjoyed a lot breaking the innocence og her young students she called "puellae" (latin for maidens), made us read a Pasolini's book called Una vita violenta (A violent life). Oh my god it was so shocking, we were disgusted! I never had the courage to read anything else or see a movie produced by Pasolini himself.
I discovered Mishima, instead, because one of his books had the same name of the famous Ryuichi Sakamato's song (I suppose it's vice-versa), sound track of the above mentioned Furyo, Forbidden colours. I also read Confessions of a mask. I was troubled too, but as far as I can remember, Mishima has a less impetuous style.
Pasolini diedmysteriously killed by on of his "boys". Mishima committed seppuku. They lived in the same time and talked about homosexuality.
I am sure there would be a lot of comparisons that could be made, and right now searching for the datas on google I found a couple of meager news about conferences that have been made about but nothing more.

And there are two beautiful movies in which these themes recur, I think in a much more poetic way. Their main characters are beautiful boys that will bring chaos in a rigorous society. And they are not that innocent.

The first one is Luchino Visconti's Morte a Venezia (Death in Venice). Some years ago I began to document myself about famous Italian movies, and Visconti is a milestone. I was so impressed that I read Thomas Mann's book that inspired it too. (You just cannot see Tadzio and not think about Anne Rice's Armand!). Björn Andrésen as Tadzio it's just an icon.

The second one is Nagisa Oshima's Taboo-Gohatto. Ryuichi Sakamato did the ost again. I did these screen myself of the ending showing Ryuhei Matsuda as Sozaburo Kano. One of the best ending I've ever seen. Quote: the chrysanthemum, symbol of love and death.

Spring is coming

So. We don't have a Pope. We don't have a Government. We don't have F1 in the public tv. In a month we will not even have a President.
A famous Italian museumcaught fire. I liked it.
However, I thought it would have been good to have an Italian Pope, but actually now I wonder how would it be if he was American. He could do big changes with a more open mind.
I have a cold. And some other disorders. I'm working hard with my therapy.
The euro-dollar was going better. And I had a very little few money to spend. But I have so many things I want to buy. I don't know what to give priority. Plus, I bought some books online.
I liked the new Baby's print Icing Dancing Cake, but its' too big on fabric.
I also like La echarpe vert clair, it's way too expensive but the idea is graet, if it was red it could be just like an Austrian Empress or a Tsarina. I want to do it myself.
And Innocent World's Violets Inside Mansion...it's a wallpaper but I must have it.
Despite all these trouble, I finally created an account on myanimelist, so that I could finally make order in my files. I had no idea I've seen so many anime. Here it's raining, but there is that terrible sensation that spring is coming... I adore spring, and I would love it more if it wouldn't precede summer!

Vacant seat in the Vatican

This is not the first time for me, but still it was so exciting!
I followed everything live.
When the Pope left Vatican City al 5:05 p.m., all the bells of Rome rang.
This evening at 8: p.m. the Pope's mandate ended, and the Swiss Guards closed the doorway of the Palazzo Pontificio. The Swiss Guards are not in charge anymore, now the defence of the Vatican is in the Gendarmery's hands.
All symbols related to Pope Benedict XVII will be removed or destroyed. Now the Vatican is "sede vacante" and the government is directed by the "Camerlengo". In a few days the Conclave will begin!
When you see all those people dressed in uniforms and ancient clothes, and all the ones devoted to a so ancient institution, it seems that there is a fixed point in history, where the past still continues in the present days. It's wonderful.

Italian elections 2013

In USA you win, you become a popstar, your wife become a showgirl and your opponent become your secretary.
In France you win and in a few months you can legalize same-sex marriage.
In Cuba and North Korea you don't win but you govern pretty smoothly.
In Germany you win the national elections and you govern a whole continent.
In Westeros you win or you die.
In Italy everyone wins and nobody can govern.

Pope Benedict XVI resigns

I'm following the press conference in the Italian tv.
This is one of those things that you would never expect to see in your life!
The priest of the conference Federico Lombardi says that the Pope has full right to do this, but actually as far I can remember from my studies, it happened just once in history with Pope Celestino V, and Dante put him in hell in La Divina Commedia.
I'm keep on translating exactly what the priest is saying live in Rome at 1 p.m.
The new Pope will be elected in March in time for Easter.
The priest says that the Pope gave the announcement in latin without any anticipation and that it caused quite a stir because his words weren't understood immediately because of the language.
Italian President Napolitano says that it's an act of great bravery and kindness.
The first video of the Pope after the announcement: Cardinal Sodano says that stars keep on shine in the sky and so the Pope's pontificate will do; then the Pope blesses the cardinals with a latin hymn.
There's another thing I remember: according to an old prophecy, this will be the last Pope of Christianity.
I can't say what this means for the Church, but I'm sure that the new Pope will have a big influence on the Italian social situation. As you may know, the Ratzinger's pontificate has been really hard towards lots of issues, and so the Italian government has been; we don't even have the recognition of same-sex relationships, and this is because of Church. We can only hope that the new Pope will bring a new awareness in the Church and so Italy will be able to progress.

02-12 update
Italian journalist Giovanna Chirri from ANSA was the first to make the announcement. Was the Pope's Latin that simple? Yes it was; plus, lots of Italians still study latin at school.
A lightning struck the Saint Peter Basilica. Yes it's true, there was a thunderstorm in Rome yesterday; but the photographer had to try for 40 minutes to do the photo; it happened several times.
Did the Pope quit for advanced age? That's what he said and what Italian televisions says. Actually, Italians newspapers say that Ratzinger tried to make some reforms in the Church but had to fight against some lobbies, and failed.
I am dazed by the comments on tumblr from all over the world. I don't know, maybe it's that here's different; here, whatever is your religion, nobody dares to make fun of it. Actually I can say we are living a very troubled time, not so different from a pope's death. I suppose that's the special snow flake feeling of when you realize to be living in History!

02-13 update
The Pope appears in public for the first time after the announcement. He seems to be healthy.
I think I will miss a lot all the scandals and speeches ; I realized I've talked about the Pope a lot in my blog!
