Simple BBQ Grill

Stainless steel is a popular material for barbeque BBQ grills due to many factors including its mirror like visual appeal and the notion that stainless means it will not rust.

Truth be told, this material is indeed one of the best for outdoor barbecue grill construction, but not all stainless grills are made with the same exact type or grade of steel. Some manufacturers may use a better quality thicker steel, and others may even utilize a stainless thin, painted on covering over an inferior material.

There are differences between two popular grades of stainless steel. One grade is considered 300 or three hundred and four to be exact. This grade type is not magnetically charged and it is considered much more rust resistant. On the other hand, a magnet will stick to the 400 grade types. The four hundred labeled stainless is considered inferior material and will rust much more easily.

The thickness of stainless steel is also something to consider. Quite frankly a thicker stainless steel BBQ grill should last longer and look better longer due to the fact that the thicker material will not tarnish quite as easy either. While some stainless steel barbecue grills will repel rust better than others, all of these grills should be covered when not in use. The shiny, pleasing to the eye chrome finish of a stainless grill will tarnish easily when exposed to rain and outdoor elements in general.

If you take a look at many outdoor barbecue grills on the market, you may find that some grill manufacturers match some stainless components with cast aluminum. Cast aluminum will not rust, but it can corrode over time. Both cast aluminum and stainless are excellent outdoor barbecue grill materials. The cast aluminum also has an additional benefit of heating very evenly, and with care, such as covering when not in use both materials should last a long time.
