札幌市は北海道の道庁所在都市です。
東京、横浜、大阪そして名古屋に次ぐ日本で５番目の人口を有する大都市です。
明治になると、北海道開拓使が置かれ、本州各地から多くの人たちが移り住み碁盤の目状の街並みが作られました。
今日は札幌の観光名所の一つ、札幌時計台を紹介します。
札幌の中心街、目抜き通りの大通り公園に面して、時計台が建っています。
札幌で、最も有名な観光スポットといえばこの時計台ではないでしょうか。
札幌時計台は正式名称は「旧札幌農学校演武場」といい、1878年(明治11年)に建てられたそうです。
札幌農学校は現在の北海道大学の前身です。

Sapporo Clock Tower seems the most well-known sightseeing spot in Sapporo. It was built in 1878, as the theatrical hall of the Sapporo Agricultural School.
The Sapporo Agricultural School was the predecessor of present-day the Faculty of Agriculture of Hokkaido University.
Sapporo Clock Tower is located in the central part of Sapporo on Odori Street, which is the main street of Sapporo.
The clock tower was designed by William Wheeler (1851-1932) .
The scenery of the clock tower and the surrounding buildings looks like the scenery of a city in the United States, for me.
At night, Sapporo Clock Tower is illuminated. The illuminated clock tower is also very impressive.
Sapporo Clock Tower is designated as an Important Property of Japan.
