宇和島城は現存12天守の一つを有するお城です。
小さいながらも堂々とした風格の天守と、その天守から眺める宇和海の様子も素晴らしいものでした。

The ruins of Uwajima Castle is one of twelve castles, which has an original Main Castle Tower built in the Edo Age (1603-1868) .

The first written record of Uwajima Castle was issued in 1546 and tells that ANDO Kenmotsu became a castle lord of Uwajima Castle.
The modern Uwajima Castle was rebuilt by TODO Takatora (1556-1630).
He started to rebuild Uwajima Castle in 1596 and completed in 1601.

DATE Hidemune (1591-1658) , who was the eldest son of DATE Masamune (1567-1636) , became the castle lord of Uwajima Castle and the first feudal lord of Uwajima Domain in 1614.
The DATE Clan became feudal lords until the end of the Edo Age.

The main bailey of the Uwajima Castle was located at the top of Mt. "Shiroyama".
The main entrance gate is located to the north of Mt. Shiroyama.

Steep stone steps continue to the main bailey located on the top of Mt. Shiroyama.
You will see stone walls on the way to the main bailey.

After passing through the "Sannomon" Gate, you will see the Main Castle Tower when you look back.
The view of the Main Castle Tower was very impressive.

The Main Castle Tower is a three-storied wooden building with three roofs.
It is designated as an important property of Japan.

From the top floor, you will see the sea of "Uwakai".
This view was very calm and peaceful.
