Matsumoto is the second largest city in Nagano Prefecture with 270,000 of population.
The history of Matsumoto started in the early 16th century, after Matsumoto Castle was built.
In the Edo Age, Matsumoto developed as a castle town.

To the south of Matsumoto Castle, couple of old houses remain.
During the Edo Age, merchants and craftsmen lived in this area.
