Nagoya Castle was one of the three biggest castles in Japan.
It is well known that the castle tower of Nogoya Castle has golden fabulous dolphinlike fishes,
called "Kin no Shachihoko" or "Kinshachi" in Japanese, on the top of the top roof.

"Uchibori", the inner moat, surrounds "Honmaru" and two corner towers protect the south side of "Honmaru".

The original castle tower remained until 1944.
It was the first national treasure of Japan designated in 1930.
However, the treasure was destroyed by airstrikes at World War II.
The current castle tower of Nagoya Castle was rebuilt in 1959.

In front of the castle tower, the wooden main palace building is being rebuilt with traditional crafts.

名古屋城のページをアップデートしました:

名古屋城は日本三大名城に数えられ、
天守に載る金鯱は特に有名です。

江戸時代に築かれた名古屋城の天守は、
第二次大戦の戦火により惜しくも焼失しています。
