平家物語に出てくる
熊谷直実と平敦盛の
悲哀の物語は
あまりに有名ですが
The sad story of
Naozane and Atsumori
in The Tale of Heike is
well known.
一ノ谷の合戦の後、
世の無常を感じた直実が
発心し法然上人の弟子となり
After the Ichinotani battle,
Naozane grieved
the uncertainty of life,
and decided to become
a disciple of Honen,
who was a founder of
Jodo Sect of Buddhism.
その法然上人の指示により
1190年の敦盛の7回忌に
高野山に登り
現在の熊谷寺に寄寓し
敦盛の菩提を祈った....
As per instruction of Honen,
Naozane came to Koyasan,
stayed in Kumagai-ji and
pray for Atsumori on his
7th memorial anniversary
in 1190.
ということを
最近知りました
I’ve just found out
about it.....
毎朝奥の院へ行くときに
熊谷寺の前を通っていた
にもかかわらずです
even though I always walk
by Kumagai-ji on my way
to Okunoin.
奥の院には
直実と敦盛の五輪塔が
並んでいるというので
探してみたところ
I heard that there are
the memorial monuments
of Naozane and Atsumori
in Okunoin.
二日かかりました
It took me two days to
find them.
一の橋を渡り
参道をまっすぐ歩き
右にあるのだと
思いましたら
I originally thought
I should walk straight
from Ichinohashi, and
they should be on my
right side, however,
右の参道を歩き
I actually should walk
on the right path, and
左にありました
I found them on my
left side.
親鸞上人の並びです
They are right next to
Shinran.
右が直実
Naozane on the right
左が敦盛
Atsumori on the left
このブログを書くために
あらためて『平家物語』の
直実と敦盛の件を
読みだしましたら
I decided to read
the Tale of Heike again
in order to write this blog,
but
止まらなくなり
なかなかブログが
進みませんでした
once started to read,
I couldn’t put it away.
そして突然
Suddenly
『平家物語』を
読みながら
思いだしました
while reading the Tale of
Heike, I remembered
that
1月31日は
この『平家物語』をくださった
私の大先輩であり
メンターである方の
御命日です
January 31st is the first
anniversary of my
mentor’s passing.
She gave me these books,
the Tale of Heike
曜日しか気にせずに
毎日を過ごしているので、
Because I only care “Day”
not “Date”
『平家物語』を
手にしなければ
大事な日を
失念するところでした
if I didn’t read this book,
I would almost miss
this important day.
日本と19時間の時差がある
ハワイは今日が1月31日です
Because of the time
difference, today is
January 31st in Hawaii.
空海の御廟の前で
彼女を思いながら
般若心経を唱えて
いましたら
While chanting the sutra
at Kukai’s mausoleum,
氷点下の高野山で
たくましく生きている私を
満面の笑みで
おかしそうに見ている
タエさんの顔が
浮かびました
I could see her smiling
and giggling about
my new crazy life of
Koyasan at the below
freezing points.
