マルタカのマスターとは
高野山移住前からの知り合いです。
I’ve known the master of Restaurant
Marutaka before I moved to Koyasan.
ですので、
暇さえあればマルタカに
顔を出します。
So, whenever I have a chance
I stop by Marutaka.
そのマルマカでは
さまざまな出会いが
繰り広げられています。
I meet all kinds of
people there.
高野山に移住して以来、
毎朝奥の院からの帰り道に
すれ違う女性がいて、
Ever since I moved to Koyasan,
I see this lady every morning
on my way back from Oku-no-in、
いつの頃からか
挨拶をするように
なりました。
one day we started saying
“good morning.”
each other.
ある晩、その女性が
お友達とマルタカで
食事をしていました。
One night I saw her
having dinner with her
friend in Marutaka.
マスターには
I whispered to
the master,
「毎朝奥の院の帰りに
すれ違う方です。」
I always see her
in the morning.
と囁きましたが、
敢えてお声は
かけませんでした。
But, I say nothing to her.
次の日の朝、
その彼女とすれ違いざまに
Next morning, when we
passed by each other,
「昨日マルタカに
いましたよね？」
Weren’t you at Marutaka
last night?
ふたりほぼ同時に
声をかけ、笑い合いました。
we said it almost at the
same time and laughed.
その2-3日後でしょうか、
2 or 3 days later,
マルタカのカウンターに
座っていましたら、
前の通りを歩いていた
その女性、Y子さんが
私を見るとマルタカに
入って来ました。
The lady, Ms. Y, saw me
sitting at the counter and
came in to Marutaka.
ビールを飲みながら、
奥の院の話で
盛り上がっているところに
マルタカの常連で
ジンジャーエールが大好きな
18歳の男の子が入ってきました。
We had beer and enjoyed
talking about Oku-no-in, then,
the 18 years old boy, who
loves ginger ale, came in.
ジンジャーエールを
ビールジョッキーで飲み、
枝豆をオーダーする
18歳に興味を持ったY子さんが
話しかけます。
Ms. Y became interested in
the 18 years old boy who
were drinking ginger ale
with a beer mug and eating
Edamame.
「ジンジャーエールに枝豆？」
Are you drinking ginger ale
with Edamame? Not beer?
「お酒は飲めないので...
18歳だから...」
I’m not supposed to drink
because I’m only 18 years old.
「えっ 18？
私、この子の親になれる！」
What? Only 18?
I could be your mother!
明るく元気なY子さんが
聞き上手、話し上手のせいか、
Because Ms. Y is so friendly,
energetic and a good lister,
ジンジャーエールの
お代わりを繰り返しながら
18歳は饒舌になっていきます。
The boy was becoming
more talkative as he kept
asking for another
serving of ginger ale.
「この子、
ジンジャーエールで
酔っ払ってきてるわー」
This boy seemed to be
drunk!
ジンジャーエールの杯を
重ねながら、彼の饒舌は
ますます磨きがかかります。
The boy had more ginger ale
and kept talking to Ms. Y.
「なんで18歳の恋バナ
聞かされてんだろう！」
Y子さんが叫びます。
I don’t know why he keeps
telling me about his love.
She screamed.
「だからぁー 」
18歳は力説します。
Listen!
The boy proclaimed.
「いくらフラれても
ホレた女には幸せに
なってもらいたい！」
Even she dumped me,
I still wish her the best
because I once fell in
love with her.
「..............」
一瞬の沈黙の後、
Y子さんと私は大爆笑です。
We were speechless for
a second and burst out
laughing.
「ほんとーに18歳？」
Are you real 18 years old?
「ほんとーに
ジンジャーエール？」
Is that real ginger ale?
40女と50女が
18歳のジンジャーエールボーイに
翻弄された高野山の夜でした。
It was a night that two matured
women were trifled with
18 years old boy.
