教えてくださった男性に、
I asked the gentleman, who
told me about Osegaki,
「ろうそく祭りは
開催されますか？」
と聞きましたら、
Would there be Candle
Festival as it’s planned?
身体を使って
答えてくださいました。
He answered like this.
新型コロナウイルスの
影響で、またひとつ
楽しみにしていた法会が
キャンセルになりました。
Due to the coronavirus,
another memorial service,
which I’ve been looking forward,
has been cancelled.
本来なら、
8月13日午後7時に
一の橋から奥の院の2kmに
参拝者から諸精霊に
10万本のろうそくが
手向けられるはずでした。
The Candle Festival is yearly
memorial service, which would be
held on August 13th at 7:00 p.m.
People would place 100 thousands
candles on the pathway from
Ichinohashi to Oku-no-in.

けれども....
However,
さすが高野山で
ございます。
Koyasan is amazing.
高野山が
夕闇に包まれる頃、
At the evening twilight time,
町中に行灯を
並べてくれました。
they placed lights with
paper shade on the side
walk.
ひとつひとつの行灯には
人々の願いが
書かれていました。
One’s wish was written on
the each light with paper shade.
May the coronavirus be gone.

コロナウイルスのおかげで
毎年行われている法会や
行事がキャンセルになり、
残念ではありますが、
It is in fact disappointing
that yearly memorial
services or events have
been cancelled because of
the coronavirus, however,
町のため、
観光客のために、
For the residents and
tourists,
今、自分たちにできることに
真摯に全力で取り組む、
Koyasan always try its best
and continue to work diligently.
そういう高野山が
やはり、
大好きです。
This is why I love Koyasan.
