一昨日からの大雨が
やっと止んだので
昨日は午後から奥の院へ
行きました。
It had been pouring for
two days, but I went to
Oku-no-in when it finally
stopped yesterday afternoon.
早朝に比べると、
人もたくさん歩いているので、

戻ることにしました。

Kukai’s mausoleum.
お友達の母校の慰霊碑を
見つけるというミッションを
完結するために
キョロキョロしながら
歩いていましたが、
I looked around all over
to find a memorial monument
of my friend’s alma mater.
シカと出会った場所を過ぎ、
I passed the area
I saw deer,
英霊殿に近づきましたら、
and I was coming closer
to Eireiden, then
なんと目の前に
探していた慰霊碑が
立っていました。

looking for was right there
in front of me.
それも、
On top of that
先日写真に撮りました
キリンビールの隣りでした.....
it stood right next to
Kirin Beer, which I just
took pictures the other day.
嬉しくて夢中で
写真を撮っていましたら、
後ろから声をかけられました。
I was so happy and started
taking pictures. Then,
I heard
「あっちの方が
もっとイイ写真が撮れるよ。」

pictures there.
奥の院の木を手入れしている
男性でした。
It was a gentleman who
took care of trees in
Oku-no-in.
「あの木、奥の院で一番古い木」
Look, that tree is the oldest tree
in Oku-no-in.
「樹齢860年」
It’s 860 years old.
「ツァーガイドは教えるけど、
ガイドブックには載ってないよ。」
Tour guides talk about it,
but guide books don’t.
860年、
雨、雪、風に耐え、
今もなお堂々と
天に向かい
そびえ立っています。
It still stands straight to
the sky after being standing
up to the rain, snow and wind
for 860 years.
雨を含んで湿った樹皮に
触れてみました。
I touched the bark,
which was wet after
absorbing the rain.
底知れない
パワーを感じました。
I could feel
an immeasurable power.
この木のように
背すじまっすぐ
胸をはり
天を仰ぎながら
年を重ねていきたいと
思いました。
I would like to age
beautifully like this tree.
