7月4日の弟の結婚式の後、

市川団十郎白猿の
襲名公演に行く計画を
立てていました。
my cousin and I were

given in honour of Ebizo’s
succession to Danjuro
Ichikawa.
奥の院の
初代市川団十郎の墓碑です。
Here is a tombstone of
1st Danjuro Ichikawa.
御廟から中の橋に戻り、
On the way back from
Kukai’s mausoleum,
中の橋を渡ると
すぐ右側にあります。
it would be on your right
after crossing Naka-no-Hashi.
中の橋を渡るたびに、
Every time I cross
the Naka-no-hashi,
この愛嬌のある
お地蔵さまにばかり
気をとられ、
I admired this cute jizo,
知ったときは、
when I finally noticed that
the tombstone is for
Danjuro ichikawa,
それまで気づかなかった
自分に衝撃をうけました。
I was quite in shock.
このお地蔵さまの顔を
見ていると、
When I look at this
Jizo’s face,
13代目の襲名披露が
延びたとて、
even though the announcement
of Ebizo’s succession to
Danjuro has been postponed,
「まぁ仕方ないの~。」
“Oh well...it can’t be helped.”
と、動ぜず
ゆったり構えて
居られるようで、
He doesn’t seem to be
bothered.
我もこうありたい
と、思うのでした。
I truly admire the way
he is.
歴史に名を残した
多くの人たちが
There are so many legendary
people in the history
生前あこがれていた
高野山に今眠っています。
who longed to come here
while they lived and finally
rest now in Koyasan.
この世にいる間に
高野山に来られたことに
感謝でございます。
I appreciate I’m in Koyasan
while I live in this life.
