用水路を流れる
物凄い水の音と、

打ちつける雨音で
rain hitting on the

午前2時半に目が覚めました。
made me wake up
at 2:30 in the morning.
予報は、
昨日の”Rain” から
今日は”Heavy Rain”に
変わりました。
The forecast has changed
from “Rain” to “Heavy Rain”
7月4日と聞いて、
真っ先に思い浮かぶのは
アメリカ合衆国の
独立記念日です。
July 4th is
the Independence Day
in the United States
of America.
毎年大変な騒ぎです。
It’s a big event
every year.
ハワイでは、
住民達は、ビーチの
場所取りに躍起になり、
家族や友達と
朝から晩まで
バーベキューを
楽しみます。
Local people in Hawaii
secured the best area
on the beach and
enjoyed barbecue
with families and friends
all day long.
7月4日が近づくと
ワイキキのホテルには、
夏休みに入った
子供連れが、
アメリカ本土から
押し寄せ、
So many families with
children arrived in Waikiki
from the mainland US
around the forth of July,
子供たちのために、
イルカと一緒に泳ぐ
プログラムやら、
and booked so many
activities such as
swim with dolphins,
乗馬, バギーに
ヘリコプターなどの
予約をしまくります。
horseback riding,
ATV ride, helicopter,
and etc.
そして、夜になると、
独立記念日のフィナーレを
かざる海から打ち上げられる
花火を見ながら食事をしようと、
Then, at night
they wanted to watch
the fireworks above
the ocean, so
何万人もの人たちが
レストランの予約を
しようとします。
more than ten thousands
people tried to book
restaurants on the beach.
いっこうに止まりそうにない
雨音を聞きながら、
そんな喧騒を
遠い日のことのように
思い出しています。
I was thinking about
such crazy days
while listening to the sound
of the endless rain.
新型コロナウイルスの
影響で、ワイキキに
立ち並らぶホテルの
ほとんどは閉館した
ままですし、
Due to the Covid-19,
majority of the hotels
in Waikiki remain closed,
and
最近リオープンしたとはいえ、
レストランの利用者数も
例年と比べようもないでしょう。
although the restaurants
have been reopened
recently, the tables wouldn’t
be filled like regular year.
7月4日.....
そして今日は年の離れた弟の
結婚式のはずでした。
Also, today on 7/4 was
supposed to be my little
brother’s wedding.
5月の末に、
「来年の2月に延期した。」
と、連絡がきました。
He called me in May and said,
“It’s postponed to February.”
この雨がいつ止むかも、
Nobody knows when this rain
will stop, or
来年にはコロナが
おさまるのか、
there won’t be the coronavirus
next year.
考えても仕方ないので、

最近は雨の日に
写経を楽しむ毎日です。

on the rainy days nowadays.
