Singapore has many cafes to visit. Some are known for their tasty coffee and all day breakfast consisting of usually eggs benedict, avocado toast and salad. Others are known for their ambience and interior design.
Today I will introduce a type of cafe that is not so common in Singapore. I call them coffee shops izakaya style. The main characteristic is that they have a bar top counter where guests can sit and talk to the staff barista or other guests, just like a izakaya in Japan. This type of coffee shop allows interesting conversations to happen and even friendships to be made. I also call them coffee shops because their main dish is not all day breakfast but coffee! From white to black coffee and even drip coffee. Sometimes they offer some light pastries too.
The first coffee shop izakaya I visited in Singapore is called Coffee Plus near farrer road mrt station.
Once I entered I could see the homely ambience and kitchen. The staff greeted me and asked me what I wanted to order.
And the special part of this cafe: the bar/table top where we can have our coffee and chat with the staff. The staff asked me if my black coffee was too bitter to which I replied "not bitter". And I could see the staff prepare coffee for other guests in front of me!

Here is how the chairs at the bar looks like

Next time I will introduce more of these coffee shops izakaya style in Singapore 😊 stay tuned.
