Me and some of my friends have been working on a unique setting.
私と友人数人で、ユニークな設定を考案しています。
I'll try to keep things limited to key points.
要点を絞って説明するようにします。
The idea is to combine the ideas of "five classical chinese elements" and "five flavors".
その考え方は、「中国の五行説」と「五味」の概念を組み合わせたものです。
A world where every human has a demon inside them called a "Hunger", which craves delicious food.
すべての人間が、おいしい食べ物を渇望する「ハンガー」と呼ばれる悪魔を体内に宿している世界。
For most people, their Hunger is something that they'll never know about.
多くの人にとって、その「ハンガー」は、決して知る由もないものなのです。
Some people, however, can be overtaken by their "Hunger" and become monsters.
しかし、中には「ハンガー」に支配され、怪物と化してしまう者もいる。
The only people capable of defeating the transformed monsters are chefs who have cultivated their cooking and combat knowledge.
変身したモンスターを倒せるのは、料理と戦闘の知識を磨いてきたシェフたちだけだ。
Some people are inherently more aware of their "Hunger" and can speak to it.
生まれつき自分の「空腹感」をより強く自覚し、それを理解できる人もいる。
In exchange for delicious food and some of their host's life force, a "Hunger" can grant its host abilities beyond human skill.
「ハンガー」は、美味しい食事と宿主の生命力を代償として、宿主に人間の能力を超えた力を与えることができる。
There's a little more supplementary information beyond that, but that's the basic idea.
それ以外にも少し補足情報がありますが、基本的にはそういうことです。
I feel like my inspirations are pretty blatant.
自分のインスピレーションの源は、かなりあからさまな気がする。
JoJo, Chainsaw Man, Hunter x Hunter, Jujutsu Kaisen, Toriko...
ジョジョ、チェーンソーマン、ハンター×ハンター、呪術廻戦、トリコ……
Maybe it's an idea that would do well in JUMP?
もしかすると、これは『ジャンプ』で好評を博すアイデアかもしれない？
Anyway, I drew a few characters and I wanted to post them!
とにかく、何人かキャラクターを描いたので、それを投稿したかったんです！
This guy screams "main character", right?
この人、まさに「主人公」って感じだよね？
I think the general aesthetic is "armor" plus "Chef attire" for the characters.
キャラクターの全体的なイメージは、「鎧」と「シェフの衣装」を組み合わせたものだと思います。
I never really think too much about lore when I'm drawing a character.
キャラクターを描くときは、設定についてあまり深く考えないんだ。
I think this guy's the bastard son of a noble family who was cast aside and raised in a Chinese restaurant, where he learned to fight and cook.
この男は、貴族の家の非嫡出子で、捨てられて中華料理店で育てられ、そこで格闘術と料理を身につけたんだと思う。
His "Hunger" looks like a genie, because I've never drawn a genie tail before and I thought it would be fun.
彼の「ハンガー」は精霊みたいに見えるんだけど、それは今まで精霊のしっぽを描いたことがなくて、描いてみたら楽しそうだと思ったからなんだ。
This is the other guy.
こちらはもう一人の人物です。
I actually drew him before I drew the main character.
実は、主人公を描く前に彼を描いたんだ。
Because the story takes place in an Asian setting, I wanted this guy to be someone obsessed with "Western" style and cuisine.
物語の舞台がアジアであるため、この男を「西洋」のスタイルや料理に夢中な人物にしたかったのです。
I'm positive he dyes his hair blonde.
彼は間違いなく髪を金髪に染めている。
I think he's a playboy and a bit of a jerk, but reliable when he has to be.
彼はプレイボーイで、ちょっと嫌な奴だと思うけど、必要な時には頼りになる。
Maybe he's another noble family castaway, who was too disgraceful to be allowed to stay.
たぶん、彼もまた、不名誉すぎて居座ることを許されなかった貴族の追放者なのだろう。
It makes it sound like it's one of those stories about how "a family is just the people you care about", doesn't it?
なんだか、「家族とは、ただ大切に思う人たちのこと」という類の話のように聞こえますね。
I wonder if stories like that are as popular in Japan as they are in the US.
日本でも、アメリカと同じくらいそういう話が人気があるのかな。
I also drew a crappy comic to explain the basic idea.
基本的な考え方を説明するために、下手な漫画も描いてみました。
Essentially, the text says, "I'll defeat him if you give me an ice pop."
要するに、この文章は「アイスキャンディーをくれたら、あいつを倒してやる」と言っているのです。
When you picture the food as the attack methods, there are some really interesting ideas.
食べ物を攻撃手段として想像してみると、実に興味深いアイデアがいくつか浮かびます。
I've been suggesting "a mushroom dish that sprouts mushrooms on an opponents and drains their life force" for a while.
「敵の体にキノコを生やして、その生命力を吸い取るキノコ料理」を、以前から提案している。
Maybe a pizza that lefts you cut your enemy into eight radial slices?
敵を8等分の扇形に切り刻めるピザなんてどうだろう？
I think there's enough substance there to come up with some fun stuff.
そこには、面白いアイデアを生み出すのに十分な要素があると思う。
Why did I draw the comic in a manga format if I'm an American...?
アメリカ人なのに、なぜ漫画形式で描いたんだろう……？
