The Foundations of Al-Anon

In the beginning AA was a family affair.
当初、AAは家族ぐるみの活動でした。
Mates, parents and children attended the meetings, usually held in homes.
配偶者や親、そして子供たちが、通常は家庭で開催されていたミーティングに参加していました。
Many of the wives tried to live by the program themselves and made much progress, but this was in a general way only.

There was nothing to help them understand their own reactions nor to realize how similar these were to the feelings of other AA wives.

There was little sharing of experience.

Back in the early days anyone lucky enough to still have a home shared it with those who had lost theirs.

Our house was as busy as an anthill.

Such terrific excitement and enthusiasm existed about this wonderful program that, when we were not twelfth-stepping or attending meetings, AA was the enthralling topic of conversation by the whole family, morning, night and noon.

At that time there was only a pamphlet or two of AA literature, so it was through actual contact with older members that a new AA group got started.

There was much visiting between groups and traveling back and forth.
