In a conversation with Alex Nino Gheciu, range of readers' quandaries, from bathroom vanities, cracked ceilings and lopsided garages, are Baeumler's focus this week.Hi, Bryan. My bathroom was renovated seven years ago and the granite countertop has a huge crack. Pieces are actually falling out. There is no warranty and the crack now runsalmost the whole length of the counter about five feet. It seems to have started where the undermount sink is fastened. Is there a resin that can be used to fix it?
Granite is a natural stone, so with any natural stone there are variations in the type of material. It's really hard to tell from the photo, but this granite looks like it has a lot of quartz in it, so it's possible the whole countertop cracked along a quartz stain or along a vein of some weaker material that came apart. The fact that it's cracked where the sink is mounted makes me think people are, possibly, putting weight on that particular area. Maybe something was dropped and chipped that corner and started the crack?
