With the change of seasons comes the change of wardrobe. Fortunately, the weather doesn’t have to completely switch up your style. With some creative pairings, you can still wear your favorite clothes in the heat and the chill. Creating new outfits with the clothes you already have can help you save money and closet space. These staple items can be worn all year round, and chances are, you already own them.

Shorts and Skirts:

Just because the temperature starts to drop doesn’t mean you have to pack away your above-the-knee garments. It’s easy to match a dress or skirt with tights or leggings to turn a summer outfit into a winter one. An edgier look gaining popularity is pairing the tights with shorts. Experiment with black, colored and patterned tights until you find a style that works for you.

If you’re like me and splurge on summer clothes, it’s always a bummer to only be able to wear sundresses and high-waisted shorts for a couple months of the year. Finding ways to wear some of my summery clothes during other seasons allows me to integrate some of my favorite pieces into my outfits at all times. By repurposing clothes with layers and tights, you can still show off your legs while keeping warm.

weather, some styles will fit right in. Try some lace up, ankle length, or cowboy boots so you can rock your favorite pair of kicks every day of the year. Boots with shorts, dresses, or even maxi skirts can complete any look. They are perfect for events like concerts and casual (and comfortable) enough to wear with jean shorts and a top. They can even be used to dress up with a wedge or a heel.

Wedges:

Wedges are another type of shoe that can be adapted to any season. While more common in warmer weather, they can be paired with jeans and skirts with tights when it gets colder. While wearing open-toed shoes and tights is a no-no according to old-fashioned rules of style, many celebrities and models sport this look with their wedges for fall and winter lines.

Tank Tops:

You can never have too many tank tops. They can be worn alone in the summer, paired with a light jacket or cardigan in the spring and fall, and worn under sweaters in the winter. Tanks can always be used under low-cut shirts and as a way to layer any ensemble.

Even more, casual tank tops can be used as work-out clothes, which are applicable to any season. Since tank tops are usually relatively inexpensive and take up a small amount of space in your dresser drawers, you can own a lot and wear them often. Having a rainbow of colors keeps you prepared for any outfit idea that may come up.

Jackets/Cardigans/Kimonos:

The theme of layering can be applied for the entire year. Although different materials need to be used in different temperatures, layering offers additional creativity for outfits. It provides the opportunity to mix and match colors, patterns and textures together. Lighter materials like kimono-style jackets can be worn on breezy summer days or as a cover-up for the beach and the pool. As the weather gets colder, you can layer light jackets (like jean) with your attire. To keep this staple layered look going, use sweater cardigans to look good and keep warm.

Scarves:

Infinity, knitted, patterned, silk, skinny, homemade … no matter what type, scarves always seem to be in style. Slipping a scarf on can completely change any outfit and can spruce up any plain shirt or sweater. Since scarf material can be made out of anything from light cotton to thick wool yarn, they can be worn during any month out of the year. Although scarves are great for keeping cozy in the wind and snow, they can also be printed with springy designs and bright colors for warmer months.

Floral Patterns:

As any color and pattern can be made to work at any time, floral designs are always in fashion. Floral patterns don’t have to be paired with a specific season. They can work even better for your outfit when the patterns contain a few of the colors most associated with the current season (like darker, neutral hues in the fall and soft, pastel colors in the spring).

Florals also offer an easy way to transition summery clothes into the winter or vice versa. A floral dress worn in the summer can be fashioned for the cold with tights, boots and a cardigan. A floral scarf will be right at home around your neck in the winter or when the flowers bloom in the spring.

Having these articles of clothing in your closet will keep you prepared at all times of the year. Discovering ways to mix up your typically seasonal items will not only add new outfits to your wardrobe, but will mark you as an imaginative trend-setter.
