This textbook is the product of my experience teaching federal administrative law. I hope that this self-published, more concentrated, considerably shorter, and far less expensive version will help my students learn the core doctrinal concepts practicing lawyers must know without adding any more confusion than is already inspired by the material. I do not harbor any conceit that I will teach students everything that they need to know to practice administrative law. Instead, the goal is to help them develop an intellectual matrix for understanding how administrative law problems are analyzed by all three branches of government8212the legislature, the executive, and, especially, the courts. Once they understand the basic rules, and the gray areas where aspects of such doctrines are still under development, they should be able to think through client problems informed by the research that will be needed.
