Yammer spreading ‘freemium’ gospel to Microsoft. Yammer CEO David Sacks says not only will Yammer continue offering a free version of its service, but will rope legacy Microsoft products into that way of doing business. “Everybody has shifted to this model because its so compelling to let the end users try the software before [businesses] buy it,” Sacks tells Wired’s Caleb Garling. Microsoft, which purchased the business-focused social network for $1.2 billion, declined to comment for the story. The notion of business social networking will get a boost if Microsoft successfully integrates Yammer with its Office 365, SharePoint and Dynamics leads-management tools, but it remains to be seen whether Yammer customers eventually get roped into paying for more of those Microsoft services.
