IBM notebooks feature upgraded batteries

Welcome to a laptop battery specialist of the IBM Laptop Battery

IBM has overhauled its ThinkPad X30 family of lightweight notebooks to provide up to eight hours of battery life.

The four ThinkPad X30 machines, available from 3 September, weigh 3.6 pounds (1.62 kilograms) with a standard battery and 4.5 pounds with an optional second battery. In an X30 equipped with the optional battery, both batteries work in conjunction to offer eight hours of battery life. The X30's standard battery delivers 4.5 hours of battery like IBM ThinkPad T40 Battery , IBM ThinkPad T41 Battery , IBM ThinkPad T42 Battery , IBM ThinkPad T43 Battery , IBM ThinkPad R50 Battery , IBM ThinkPad R51 Battery , IBM FRU 08K8193 Battery , IBM 92P1060 Battery , IBM 08K8214 Battery , IBM 08K8195 Battery life. The four machines are available in varying models.

Some of the X30 models feature Cisco Systems's Aironet 802.11b cards for wireless access. X30 models are also available with Intel's PRO/Wireless LAN card, which lets users toggle among five Internet connection technologies, including 802.11b, Bluetooth, and Ethernet cards.

For security, some of the laptops come with IBM's embedded security chip, which secures wireless connections and also protects the user against unauthorised log-ons. The notebooks also have an optional fingerprint reader.

A base configuration with a 1.06MHz Intel Mobile Pentium III processor, 128Mbytes of RAM, a 20Gbyte hard drive, two USB ports, an IEEE 1394 port, and a 12-inch TFT liquid crystal display is priced at $1,999 (£1,288).

Through the previous collaboration on the 32nm and 28nm, ARM has already delivered 11 test chips that provide concrete research structures and early silicon validation.

The companies have given no indication of when the 14nm chips will go into production or start appearing in mobile devices.

In January, Microsoft chief executive Steve Ballmer revealed at the 2011 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas that the next version of Windows will be the first to run on ARM processors.

Microsoft also revealed that Windows 8 will support SoC architectures, including ARM-based systems from partners Nvidia, Qualcomm and Texas Instruments, as well as x86 systems from Intel and AMD.

"This announcement is really all about enabling a new class of hardware and new silicon partners for Windows, to bring the widest possible range of form factors to the market," Ballmer said.
