Mountain School Board moved forward with its elementary school and junior/senior
high school addition projects by accepting bids during Tuesday night's meeting.
Josh Bower, project manager with Crabtree, Rohrbaugh and Associates
Architects, said the two projects will each cost less than first estimated.
For the Trevorton Elementary School addition, the board awarded the
general construction bid to Zartman Construction, Northumberland at $1,068,000;
the mechanical and plumbing construction bid to Bognet Inc.,There is a

Both motions to
receive the bids included actions to issue letters of intent to the lowest
bidders in order to move the project forward in a timely manner.
"It's
very important we get these letters of intent to the contractors by Dec. 4 so we
can start the project by July," Bower said.
Since the board voted Aug.
23 to close the elementary schools at Dalmatia and Leck Kill at the end of the
2012-13 school year, Bower said the project needs to start in the summer to
finish before the 2013-14 school year.
"The last thing you want to be
doing is keeping the buildings open for two weeks (in the new school year)," he
said.
A four-classroom addition, which will be built at the northwest
corner of the Trevorton building, is part of a plan to send all students in
kindergarten through fourth grade to Trevorton and fifth- and sixth-grade
students to the high school to join seventh and eighth graders.
The
motion to move forward with the elementary school project was made and seconded
by Directors Dennis Erdman and David Scott Bartholomew. It passed 6-2 with
