I think there are problems with the volumetric representation when the movements are large compared to the volume. If you think about the resolution of the cameras ( I think they are using 2 megapixels at 24 frames per second) so at 3 meters each pixel represents a few mm resolution which isn't high enough. Then there is an issue with skeletons, and the laser scanned volumes, they have to deform without knowing where the joints are, which is problematic.
