Today I write about what is debate.
Debate and discussion are often misunderstood..I know they’re very complicated.
Okay, I explain the difference between them a little bit today.
1. A debate is a clash of conflicting arguments over a given theme, known as a proposition, between an Affirmative, or supportive side and a Negative, or opposing side.
2. While discussions may cover a broad range of problem areas under a given topic, debate, narrows the scope of an argument, focusing in depth on one single question of a controversial issue.
3. Those who aspire to be leaders in politics or business will find it useful to learn the skills and strategies to be gained from studying debate, like presenting persuasive, convincing arguments.
4. Debate focus us to differentiate relevant from irrelevant data and supporting from deceptive or misleading data, in an effort to determine which data are subject to the opponent’s attack.
5. Debate involves much collaborative group work: all team members together in both the preparation for and during a debate round.
