take it easy

It happend suddenly.... All the three fish and a hermit crab I kept in the little marine tank died last week.A week ago, a fish called Jewelled Blenny, "Yaeyama Ginpo" in Japanese, started to breathe heavily and an sea anemone seemed to be weakend. So I checked the water quality and found out that the level of nitrate was higher than it should be. Then I cleaned the filter and change a half of water....but it made the situation worse. In Wednesday morning, I found the Blenny was lying on its side...it died. Moreover, a Clown Anemonefish also died in the afternoon. I ordered a cooler and a new filter but it was too late. And the other Clown Anemone fish died the next day. It was fine until the day before. What was wrong? Probably, it happened due to high temperature and the water pollution but I don't know what made it so fatal. The water seemed to be stabilized in these three days. The sea anemone and corals looks okay and snails are wondering around the tank. I wish new fish will be fine....

茅ヶ崎方式英語会。

“英語でブログ”ってのはやっぱり続く訳もなく、

ネタも思いつかないので、今日は日本語で…典型的な3日坊主です

2年ちょっと前から“茅ヶ崎方式英語会”の教室に通っています。

きっかけは、その年の1月に英検準1級を初受験して、3点足りずに不合格　

ま、単語以外の勉強を全くしなかったので、それも当然の話なのですが、

やっぱり悔しかったので、英会話ではなく英語教室を探しました。

その頃、私の英語力にはかなりの偏りがありました…

リスニングとスピーキングは結構得意だけど、

ライティングとリーディングが極端に弱い…準1級もライティングで

…ということもあって、“英語でブログ”に行きついたのですが

茅ヶ崎方式というのは、元NHK国際放送英語記者の方々が

実際のニュースを学習用に書き下ろしたものを聞いて、

それを聞き取り、意味を出していくというもの。

全国に協力校があって、各校で多少やり方が違う様です。

私が通っている教室では、毎週、“英語教本”という本の中から

10の英文(過去のニュース)を丸暗記して、

教室に着いたらそのうちの日本語が書いてある8文を書き、発表します。

それと、単語を聞いて意味を言うクイックレスポンスをします。

その後に、毎回、2本のニュースを聞き取りし、

先生の用意してくれた英字新聞などの資料を読んだりします

先生は翻訳のお仕事をされている方で、

類義語や反対語、文法などを説明してくれたりします。

リスニングは比較的得意だと思っていたので

始めたころは「どうなのかなぁ？私に合うのかな？」って

正直思っていたのですが、実際にやってみると

思っていた以上に聞き取れていないことを実感

というか、語彙力が足りな過ぎて使われている単語の意味が

よくわかっていなかったり、口頭で訳だしをするのですが、

英語でだいたいの意味が分かっていても日本語にできない

英語というより経済とか政治とか日本語でもよくわからなかったり

私の英語力って思っていたよりヒドイものだったって事を実感…。

そんな私でも、この2年間で語彙力や英語感みたいなものは

見についてきたように思います

ニュースなのでよく似た内容や表現が何度も出てきたり、

繰り返し聞くことで覚えられるんだと思いますが、

以前より、Podcastの英語のニュース(CNNやNHKやBBC)の

理解できる割合が大きくなっているような気がします

2年経って、先ほど書いた“英語教本”を1冊した(はず)なのですが、

出てくる単語や内容はまあまあ覚えているけど、

やっぱり文章は最初に覚えた10文以降は忘れちゃってて…

まだまだ続けていかなくちゃダメだなぁ～～

My little marine tank.

These days, I'm into fishing....in the tiny "pigg world". In my real world, I keep some sea water fish in my tiny fish tank. I usually post their pictures on the other blog site but I'll introduce them here today.

It's only 40cm wide, 26 liters. There are 2 Clown Anemonefish which are known as "Nimo", a Yellow Coral Goby, some Sea Anemones, 2 hermit crabs, a shrimp and so on.

Surprisingly, each of them has their own character. This Clown Anemonefish is particularly bossy.... It's crazy about the sea anemone! The sea anemone kept walking in the tank for about a month....now it seems to give up fleeing from the fish.

It's hard to imagine but these are also sea anemones....two of them on the left are the same kind with the big one. The other one is unknown. Lots of creatures came with "live rocks" such as a sea urchin, some jelly fish and worms. I guess the sea anemone was hidden in the rocks.

A month has passed....

A month has passed since the massive earthquake and tsunami hit in Tohoku. Until the disaster occurred, honestly, I thought nuclear power plants were necessary. TV commercials repeatedly said "they are safe and energy efficient, they produce no CO2". I had never thought that they were dangerous. I might have been brainwashed that way. I don't demand that all the nuclear power plants be shut down immediately but we should think and discuss the alternative ways to create electricity. I feel so sorry for the people who live near the plants....they may not be able to live in their hometowns any more, I'm wishing all the people evacuated from their hometowns would be able to go back their sweet home safely.

Blog design.

I've changed the design of this site. As I used to run a shopping site with hand-made bead jewerly, I knew a bit about making website such as html and CSS....but I've forgotten everything! It's hard not to feel that I'm aging.
