9日、フィリピン ニノイ・アキノ国際空港の職員が
香港に向けて発とうとしていた中国籍の男性の所持品から
「Yamashita Gold 999」と刻印された
およそ5キロの金魂を見つけ押収したと発表。
一時は、「山下財宝ではないか」と騒がれたが
金魂は後の調査で銅だとわかったという。
山下財宝とは、山下奉文大将率いる日本軍によって
終戦時にフィリピンに埋められたとされる莫大な埋蔵金があるという伝説。
フィリピンで一般的に語り継がれている伝説では
東南アジアで徴発した金塊をシンガポールからフィリピンで中継し
日本本土に海上輸送しようとしたが
潜水艦や航空機による海上輸送路への攻撃が激しくなったため
隠しておいて、終戦後に引き上げようとしたところ
関係者が戦犯として処刑されたため在処の情報が失われたとされている。
