In the Photos menu bar, choose File Create project type App Store. The Mac App Store opens and shows available Project Extensions. Click an extension to learn more, or click Get to download the extension. After the extension downloads, it becomes available as a Project Extension in Photos. Project Viewer 365 for Mac allows project team members to open MS Project MPP Plans from cloud locations like Google Drive. Dropbox, OneDrive, SharePoint Online, Box, Basecamp, URL Links and email attachments. Project Viewer 365 for Mac is compatible with Microsoft Project (MPP file format) 2016, 2013, 2010, 2007, 2003 and earlier versions. The Project Online web app is designed by Microsoft, comes with Microsoft 365 for Mac and is fully functional. To be clear, it’s not a web-based version of Projects. Microsoft explains that “Project Online is an entirely separate service that offers full portfolio and project management tools on the web.”.

At a high level, the information on the comparison table is useful. But when faced with specific questions like, “What licence do I need if all I want to do is respond as a Resource Manager to an engagement request?”, this proven to be difficult to answer.
Project Online Macros
Microsoft has now released a much more granular table that lists out features available to users in detail and simply shows which licenses will support it. This means working out what license is required for a particular Feature is a breeze. See the feature availability table from Microsoft here.

To collaborate on a project site – unfortunately, a SharePoint licence doesn’t quite cut it. At a minimum, Project Online Essentials is required. Project Online licensing for external users follows the same policy as that for internal users. Any interaction on a Project Online site requires a Project Online license.
The other interesting thing is that the title of the page is Project Online Service Description.
Microsoft has assured us that the New Project Service will be available with existing Project Online licenses and the heading makes me speculate that this page has been put together with the “to be” state in mind. We will have to wait and see for that one but in the meantime, I hope you find the links as helpful as I did.

How to find and install Photos Project Extensions
- Open Photos.
- In the Photos menu bar, choose File > Create > [project type] > App Store. The Mac App Store opens and shows available Project Extensions.
- Click an extension to learn more, or click Get to download the extension.
- After the extension downloads, it becomes available as a Project Extension in Photos.
Convert existing projects
You can update or continue to work on your existing Photos projects by converting them using third-party extensions:
- In the Photos sidebar under Projects, select the project that you want to convert.
- In the Photos menu bar, choose File > Create > [project type], then choose the Project Extension that you want to use. The extension shows options for the project, then converts the project into its own format.
- Use the Project Extension's interface within Photos to edit your project and place your order for print products. Click Done in the upper-right corner of Photos when you're finished. The converted project appears in the sidebar along with your original project.

After you convert your projects, you can edit them further and place orders using the extension's interface within Photos.
Create new projects
To create a new Photos project using extensions, follow these steps:
- Select a Memory, Album, or group of photos that you want to use for your project.
- Choose File > Create > [project type], then choose a Project Extension.
- Use the extension's interface to create your project, edit it, and place an order.
You can add more photos to your project after it's created: drag the photos from the Photos view and drop them onto the project's name in the sidebar.
