100 People Hold Huge Waterfight

Around 100 people took part in Shanghai's second Water War on Sunday (July 21), assuming battle stances and water weapons in an effort to take on each other as well as fighting the summer heat.

On Sunday afternoon, people armed with water guns and pistols gathered around the fountain at People's Square to fight each other with water.

Participants, divided into several different teams, chased up and attacked other team members with their only a water pistol or a bucket.

Though many resembled drowned rats afterwards, all seemed to enjoy themselves, including 28-year-old Indian tourist, Saurabh Dandhi.

"It's a really nice weather and the last one week has been super hot. Certainly you come here with your friends and meet all these people and make some crazy fun. It's really good," he said.

No grudges were held afterwards, with Hong Kong resident Carmen Qin among the many grateful for the chance to cool down on an otherwise hot day.

"It's really interesting and I feel very cool here. It's pretty hot in Shanghai these days. After coming here, I feel very cool and comfortable. I can let off steam here," she said.

Temperatures in Shanghai were expected to reach above 35 degree Celsius over the next three days.
