I’ve heard some say that it looks like the top half of an old man onesie, but the henley is an important part of any man’s wardrobe. Like a chameleon, it can make it’s way into any outfit and look good. Generally speaking, although there are many variations as of late, a henley is a V-neck shirt that has anywhere between 3-5 buttons on it to button-up the collar.

Henleys are excellent for layering and go great with anything from a blazer to a leather jacket, cardigan or puffer vest.

The button-up V collar gives excellent dimension to its counterparts. When worn solo, the buttons and neck style show a little more attitude than a normal T-shirt and can liven any casual outfit. So whenever you are in a casual situation and looking for a T-shirt, try the henley to spice things up.

When shopping for one, have a core collection in solid colors like white, off-white, navy, olive, medium gray, or charcoal. They come in a wide range of colors and styles these days but I’ve found that the simple styles in solid colors will get more mileage. They come in long sleeve and short sleeve but go for the long sleeve. It will be more versatile when layering and you can always hike it up for more air circulation.
Oh! and quick tip, don’t ever button it all the way up. Leaving a few buttons undone keeps that V shape and is essential in its function. You want to keep those gramps comments to a minimum.
