Cox, who has two children, Patricia and David, said she likes
reading newspapers and watching the Cubs."When I was 16 years old I just
got hooked on them," she said. "Players like Stan Hack, Phil
Cavarretta. I love baseball. I had a little radio and I would listen to
the games on WGN. … (On Ladies' Day) I would take the 'L' to the game.
All by myself. I went everywhere by myself. I was very independent."Cox
says her goal is to live longer than her mother (who died at 91). We
asked if she has a secret to longevity."I don't drink. I don't smoke. I
have one drink at Christmas: The grasshopper — that green thing," Cox
said. "I seem to be able to eat anything. Brownies are my favorite food.
Maybe that's the secret!"
Cox said she feels more patriotic at age
90 than she did when she was 21."People will say, 'Who cares about World
War II?' and I say, 'Don't forget! Where would you be if it hadn't been
for World War II and us going into it?' " said Cox, who until recently
was active with the American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary. "They
