Samsung Series 9

Welcome to a Laptop Battery specialist of the Toshiba Laptop Battery

How do you get something similar to the wedge-like (and recently-patented) design of the MacBook Air without running afoul of Apple's lawyers? Samsung's answer is its premium Series 9 laptop. The company's 13.3-inch flagship model doesn't exactly taper to the narrow 3mm edge of the Air, but you may get that impression from its curved sides and the polished silver edges. In fact, it is also lighter than the Air and feels just as sturdy due to its all-aluminum chassis.

When we last saw the second-gen Series 9, it was the 15-inch version with Intel's Sandy Bridge CPU. The 13.3-inch model has since been updated to the latest Ivy Bridge platform, but everything else remains similar, from the amount of memory to the SSD. Performance is slightly better, especially the integrated graphics, but the battery like Toshiba PA3692U-1BAS Battery , Toshiba PA3692U-1BRS Battery , Toshiba PA3727U-1BRS Battery , Toshiba PA3728U-1BRS Battery , Toshiba PA3729U-1BAS Battery , Toshiba PA3729U-1BRS Battery , Toshiba PA3732U-1BAS Battery , Toshiba PABAS069 Battery , Toshiba PABAS081 Battery , Toshiba PABAS098 Battery , Toshiba PABAS099 Battery , Toshiba PABAS121 Battery life isn't as good as some of its Ultrabook competitors.

The Series 9 is expensive--it's just slightly more affordable than the original first-gen product--and the single configuration, selling in Singapore for S$2,188, still costs more than the equivalent 13.3-inch MacBook Air. You do get a slightly better Core i7 processor with the Samsung, but the MacBook Air comes with a 256GB SSD (128GB on the Samsung) for S$100 less.

Samsung used an extra-tough duralumin (used in aircrafts) chassis on the first-gen Series 9, but we never really saw the need for that. The company's second-gen Series 9 sensibly opts for plain aluminum and the chassis feels just as sturdy. Despite being even slimmer than its predecessor, we found the lid and the body of the laptop to be solid with little flex.

The laptop has curved sides that aren't thick enough for any ports, though Samsung manages to fit an SD card slot with a flap, too. It's only near the hinge that we get adequate space for ports, and even then, it's only good enough for one USB port.

At just 1.16kg, the new Series 9 weighs less than the previous version, and handily beats the 1.35kg MacBook Air. While Samsung doesn't call it an Ultrabook, the Series 9 is competing with Ultrabooks (and possibly the new Sony Vaio Z). Among them, only the Toshiba Portege Z830 is lighter at 1.13kg, though the Samsung is still thinner at just 12.9mm. Fittingly, the Series 9 comes with a slim power adapter that weighs around 320g.

Samsung describes the color of the Series 9 as "mineral ash black", but it looks more like a blend of grey and blue. The exterior of the laptop is completely matte and, according to Samsung, sandblasted to reduce fingerprint smudges.
