Asus has announced its newest Eee netbook today called the 1000HE. This machine doesn't have some of the sexy features we saw on some Eee netbooks at CES like a swiveling touchscreen, but it does offer good battery life according to Asus.
This will be the first netbook to use Intel's new Atom N280 CPU. The N280 doesn't improve much in performance (it's still running at 1.6GHz), but does promise more power efficiency, which in turn leads to better battery such as Asus ADP-65DB Ac Adapter , Asus A6 Ac Adapter , Asus A7 Ac Adapter , Asus A8 Ac Adapter , Asus F9 Ac Adapter , Asus U5 Ac Adapter , Asus A6JA Ac Adapter , Asus A7J Ac Adapter , Asus A8Js Ac Adapter , Asus Z91 Ac Adapter , Asus W3V Ac Adapter , Asus Z61a Ac Adapter life. Asus claims that the 1000HE can last up to 9.5 hours on a single charge.
The improvements aren't just coming from the new chip. Asus features its Super Hybrid Mode on the machine to help increase battery life by allowing the user to optimize the CPU for performance or battery life as needed. One of the biggest complaints that I and other Eee users have had with many of the netbooks from Asus is the keyboard. Specifically the right shift key was in an odd position that most users didn’t like.
Along with the new CPU, the netbook also gets the new chicklet keyboard that puts the right shift key back in its proper place. The chiclet keyboard reminds me quite a bit of the MacBook keyboard. Storage for the machine is to a 160GB HDD and Asus offers an additional 10GB of online storage. Other features include 802.11b/g/n networking and Bluetooth.
A launch date for the machine isn’t offered, but Asus is accepting pre-orders. The price for the 1000HE is $399 and those who pre-order will get a $25 discount.
