I went to Hollywood bowl to see a concert by Dr. John tonight, with some pretzel and Captain Morgan.
Tonight's theme was "Allen Toussaint Salute." At first, Galactic played their songs. I've been thinking the most important part of the drums is the sound of a snare drum. The drummer showed me that a bass drum could be as impressive as the snare. And as I believe, Funk is the most danceable genre of music, especially in live concerts (Needless to say, the most danceable live music is the one played by Soul Flower Mononoke Summit). A (relatively) young female singer from New Orleans sang several songs. I felt her high tone range resembled that of Aretha Franklin.
Allen Toussaint Band showed up next. When they ended. their part, one hour and twenty minutes has passed. it meant it was already 9:20 p.m. That made me think that Dr. John might not be in good shape now.
Actually, he had played for 40 minutes, it felt pretty short for me. And I don't think he played any songs from his famous "Gumbo". But that's OK for me, at least he played "Such A Night". He played with his band "nite trippers". The trombone woman seemed to be the actual master of the band. I've seen her when they played in Japan a few years ago. She wore a supporter on her left knee then.
No encore though, that's OK. I enjoyed. Legendary Dr. John is still alive. I've seen that.
I've already seen some concerts by great musicians since I came to LA about 3 months ago. I'l write about them later.

His piano was made by Yamaha, and something dazzling on the right is a skull.
