I read Lord Dunsany's King of Elfland's Daughter but it was hard work and made no impression – I failed to read E.R Eddison's Worm Ourorboros. Posted by Lyndon : 6/18/2007 11:41:00 AM. I have a goodreads account (see the blogroll on the right) and you should check it out. However, there's no doubt that it was a seminal work. In this particular passage, Gaiman is alluding to Dunsany's The King of Elfland's Daughter with his use of the phrase “the fields we know. Product Details: Publisher: ballantine (1973). For Dunsany, I've only read The King of Elfland's Daughter (marvelous title!). The original, for those unfamiliar, is an award-winning tale with echoes of Lord Dunsany's The King of Elfland's Daughter . I don't think anyone would read Lord Dunsany's The King of Elfland's Daughter (fantasy), Issac Asimov's Foundation Trilogy (sci fi), or H.P. The poetic style and sweeping grandeur of The King of Elfland's Daughter has made it one of the most beloved fantasy novels of our time, a masterpiece that influenced some of the greatest contemporary fantasists.
