Better day today
It's beautiful autumn weather today, there was a light mist earlier and the leaves are everywhere. It's funny how quickly the trees can change from being all pretty and green one week and the next going into fall overdrive. There's a great smell in the air too, and I'm craving apples badly. Why couldn't I have a real apple tree in my new backyard instead of a crabapple one
Oh well, we'll be heading out to the farm sometime this month, I'll pick up a bushel or two there as well as some pumpkins. I must have saved at least a dozen apple recipes to try, not all of them are desserts (although most are). And I'm definitely going to be doing these. Go look at them. Look at them. There is no way this season is going to pass me by and I not make these. Not happening. These will be a thing this year.
And these. Gourmet stores eat your hearts out.
This weekend's shaping up to be quite busy. It's Thanksgiving for one, and I volunteered to do most of the cooking. I say most because I've never actually done it before, so I'll be slightly supervised by mom. But I enjoy cooking, so it won't be too bad. A lot of prep work to do though, a lot of planning. Especially since you can't have Thanksgiving dinner without dessert. I think a pumpkin cheesecake's definitely on the list; pumpkin pie (and most pumpkin anything I've seen so far) I just can't do, but that is sweet enough to make pumpkin enjoyable. Pumpkin pie haters now have no excuse
Also this weekend Mom and I are going to do a horror night, watching scary movies and enjoying finger foods so there's that prep as well. We're going for the old ones like Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street and the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre. It's going to be a fun weekend
