It is generally believed that some people are born with certain talents, for instance for sport or music, and others are not. However it is sometimes claimed that any child can be taught to become a good sports person or musician.

Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

My Answer

As certain talents are invisible and abstract concept, it is difficult to conclude whether any child becomes excellent sports player or musician, regardless of the talents which is given by nature. Personally, I want to believe every child can become a good sports player, but actually, I assume that children need special talent to become that kind of person.

Obviously, being taught and trained well are essential to become any kind of specialist and they seem to prove that any child can obtain the incredible skill by hard practice. Moreover, some people insist that too many people use the word “talent” only as an excuse to their lack of discipline, effort and good coach.

Nevertheless, as far as I am concerned, I have seen plenty of people who made enormous effort for training with good sports trainer but resulted in a less skilful player than an ordinary person can be. Likewise, since we have different features in terms of our bodies and appearances, it is natural to say that our ability to improve and learn how to act in certain situation can be attributed to our genetic characteristics. It would be the same case as no one can grow up taller than 2 meters by eating special food.

In conclusion, I strongly believe that without talent, no one would be an excellent sports person or musician, but meanwhile without training and being taught in good way, no one also could become one. Therefore we need to bear in mind that until we recognize the talents of children, adults should encourage to bring up their potential talents.

Some people believe that there should be fixed punishments for each type of crime. Others, however, argue that the circumstance of an individual crime, the motivation for committing it, should be taken into account when deciding on the punishment.

Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

MY ANSWER

There has been much debate on the topic of the level of the punishments for several types of crime. Some people insist that punishments should be sentenced only because of the consequence of the crime itself. Others believe the environment of the criminals should affect the punishment, since the penalty should work as giving the criminals opportunity to regret what they did.

First of all, for many years, the relatives and parents of victims have been complaining about too light penalty against the criminals who have special reasons such as mental problem, which does not matter for the relatives from their emotional point of view. Meanwhile, some people criticizes that there are enormous cases which spend too many years and money to serve the final sentence because of much of the investigation at court. These two problems could be solved if the punishments were decided according to each type of crime.

On the other hand, it is said that there is much difference between the crime which is committed by mistake and intentionally. As the punishment should be an effective tool to change their way of thinking into ordinary way, their situation and attitude should be taken into account. If the person who committed the crime become mentally better, there will be no need to criticize him anymore.

In conclusion, although I understand the feelings of relatives of the victims, I strongly believe that the sentence should be given considering the environment and motivation of criminals. We should criticize the crime itself and we do not have the right to ruin the future of criminals, if they could be changed into the same as ordinary people with moral sense.

TASK

Governments around the world are spending billions in support of space programs. This money would be better spent on research into improvements in human health.

To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?

My answer

There has been much debate on the topic of government’s spending money on space projects and health problems. Some people believe that spending money on improving technology about outside the earth will be helpful to other areas, such as biology, physics, chemistry, and also health problems. Others believe that considering that health study is as important as space survey, too little money has been spent on health research.

It is true that the survey of space and experiment in the space area are important for other subjects as well. For example, checking how virus or cells acts in the space can be a crucial opportunity to find a new medicine. Moreover technology of going into space is also important for making the county’s power stronger, since whether the country dominate the space above the earth directly connect to the power of military service. Researching the space is not only for interest or fun but also for extremely practical things for their country and it can be worth spending billions.

On the other hand, it is sometimes said that although we have many health issues about both our body and mental, we do not pay enough attention to them and government should support basic study about these matters. For example, government sometimes keen on increasing the number of the doctors, but not willing to pay subsidy for research of basic studies, which is not related to cure diseases directly. I often feel that the government might tend to concentrate on only things which they can see directly and tend to ignore the important stuffs behind them.

From my point of view, as both are absolutely essential for human’s developing, the problem is that we are not quite sure that why both are important and to what extent they are important. If government continues to pay billions of money on both from the money which we are paying for tax, politicians have to inform their importance and let us decide what to do. We now do not have sufficient information to agree or disagree.

As most people spend a major part of their adult life at work, job satisfaction is an important element of individual wellbeing.

What factors contribute to job satisfaction?

How realistic is the expectation of job satisfaction of all workers?

My answer

As Most of the people today spend the majority of their lives at work, it is absolutely essential how they can be satisfied and enjoy their working time. This might be quite challenging for several reasons. Firstly, there are many jobs which are supposed to be so monotonous and tedious that you cannot be content. Secondly many workers think that they can’t derive satisfaction from their work just because of the environment around them. It is said that you could be satisfied, if your jobs are worth satisfying. For example, with the jobs which are highly creative or which you have to take rights and responsibilities, you could feel self-realization and jobs would be always intriguing. If these two are the case, it seems to be impossible to reach the ideal job because all jobs will not be perfect. However, I strongly believe that they are not true.

As far as I’m concerned, there are some people who can appreciate their work, even if it is routine work or it is not so gripping for others. Why can they find it is interesting? There two main reasons about it. Firstly, this type of people can smoothly find curious things from jobs, so unless their work is completely the same, they will be able to discover enjoyable things. Secondly they are curious about what they are not familiar with, and they are happy to get to know and open new horizons.

The important thing is that even if two people do the same job, what they actually recognize could be completely different because the one might be able to find positive things due to his or her curiosity and the other might not.

In conclusion, the main factors which contribute to job satisfaction are the curiosity and willingness to find something fascinating, which is inside you. Therefore if all the workers have this kind of feeling, it is not impossible for them to be satisfied with their jobs.
