Rice Shower (Uma Mususme)
Rice Shower is a bit of an add ball of a character. Her weak demeanor and meek personality is one that is rarley found. Yet her story tells a quintisential story and has risen to be one fo the most popular characters in Uma Mususme.
Rice Shower is based off the real race horse, Rice shower. A race hore known for defying all odds and stealing the thrid crown form Mihono Burbon despite her small body. The race horse himself was very controverisial for this reason. The legendary race where Rice Shower faced off against Mihino Burbon was viscerally recreated in the anime for Umamusume and speaks to her character. She is one of ditermination and hardf work. These are common traits in the anime sphere but what sets her apart is how much she is persecuted for it. Depicted in the anime, she is constantly based on by others and not one cheers her on despite the fact that she had just ade horseracing history. This makes her doubt her efforts and eventually, she decides to stop running because fo the happiness she had "taken forkm others". This is an interesting take, because unlike the sociaopath chaaracters of westerm media, Rice Shower shows an extreme care for the overall result of her actions. The idea of an overpreformer being punished for overpreforming and stepping out of line is prevalent all around Japanese society. Its common knowledge that the group is highly valued in Japan, and Rice Shower is a great example of what happens when that rule is broken. Despite her accomplishments, she is showered with insult. The idea of working to a goal and succeding is very common. Rice Shower is a good example of when no one wants you to. While not as grandesse, Rice Shower's story is one that is relable to everyone. The desire to be praised and "chiyahoya" is one that is very basic and Rice Shower's sotry is one that shows someone not strong, but frail going against the system and being denyed this gratification. Her shy and feminine demeanor, mixed in with her strong demeanor during races and training also is a traditional Gap Moe which helped in her popularity with not only male but female viewers.
In the end, Rice Showers view changes. Despite no a single person cheering for her, she break the 2 winning streak of Mejiro McQueen. The social system pushes back on her as it always had, but "to win means to take the dreams of others".
