第１回「二世に会い、日系人と交流するツアー」後編
ハワイ島はあまりにも濃密だったため、２回に分けてご紹介します。
今回は、ハワイ島篇①です。
マウイを朝発つ際に、大きな虹が出ていました。それが次第にダブルレインボウになってきて。
ヒロ空港に着いた足でホノカアに向かいます。
予定よりも早く着いたので、スケジュールにはなかったホノカアの街をホロホロしている間に、松元がピ−プルズシアターに顔を出したところ、ちょうどオーナーのDr.キーンが庭の植物に水を撒いていました。Dr.とは2012年の本作の上映以来です。
「映画で証言する二世に会うツアーのために来たんだよ」と告げると、「じゃあ、みんなに中を見せるよ。正面に回って！」と、開館前だったのにわざわざ開けてくれました。
ロビーやシアター、さらに映写室やVIP席を案内してくれ、果てはDr.のプライベートルームまで皆さんに見せてくれました。
2012年のハワイ上映行脚で、本作はピ－プルズシアターでも上映し、Dr.にはお世話になりました。
依然、ピ－プルズシアターの経営が厳しいのは変わりなく、本作が少しでもピ－プルズシアターの存続の役に立てるよう、私たちは、あることを考えています。Dr.とは、その件でメイルのやり取りをしましょう、と約束し、ピ－プルズシアターを後にしました。
マラサダで有名なTEX DRIVE INNで昼食を買い込み、「トモエ・オケタニさん（92歳）」のご自宅へ。
トモエさんは、ハワイアンキルトを復興させた伝説のキルトクラブ『Ka Hui Kapa Apana O' Waimea』の創設時から参加しているメンバーです。
最近まで車の運転をしていて、ボンダンスも踊っている、と言っていました。
４人姉妹の一番下で、家にはお金がなかったから上の三姉妹は7年生や8年生までしか学校に行けなかったこと。自分も8年生までと諦めて仕事をしていたところ、プランテーションのマネージャーの家のメイドに雇われ、外で陽を浴びる厳しい労働からは免れた、と言っていました。トモエさんが16歳の時のことだそうです。
さらにトモエさんのキルト作品を見せてもらいながら、Ka Hui Kapa Apana O' Waimeaに参加した時の話などもうかがいました。作品の中には、10年以上もかかった作品もあります。
トモエさんは、私たちの来訪にドリンクや自家製のお漬物、デザートまで用意してくれていました。その心遣いが嬉しくて、おばあちゃんのお家に遊びに来た感情も沸き起こったぐらいです。
名残惜しつつもトモエさんのお宅を辞する時間になったのですが、トモエさんは家の外まで出てきて最後までお見送りしている様子を見て、みんなで「トモエさんカワイイ〜！！」の大合唱でした。
そしてヒロに戻りハワイ大学で行われている本作の上映会に。
２回目の終盤に間に合い、最後尾で映画を見ていたのですが、前日にお会いしたヒロシ・アリスミさんの「忘れられんのぉ、仲間のことは…」という言葉にグッときたりして。
上映後に松元が簡単な挨拶をしました。
内容は、「私が何故この映画を製作したのか。思いは一つです。多くの日本人は、一世の移民の苦労は、なんとなく知っています。しかし、多くの日本人は、二世たちの形の違う苦労をほとんど知りません。私は、同じ根を持ち同じ血を有する日本人として、それは“恥”だと思います。だからこの映画を作って日本人に知ってもらいたかったのです」と言うものでした。
その後、会場に来ていた映画で証言する二世ヴェテラン「ワタル・コハシさん（94歳）」と邂逅をし、もう一人のヴェテラン「イサム・カネクニさん（95歳）」とディナーをご一緒しました。
カネクニさんは常ににこやかにし、ツアー参加者の皆さんとのやりとりも楽しんでいるようでした。
上映会を主催されたハワイ大学の本田教授や本田教授のお母様もご一緒していました。本田教授母子とは、2012年のハワイ島上映で常に行動を共にしていましたから、やはり久しぶりにお会いしたことになります。
そろそろお開きに、というところで、カネクニさんが全員分のお会計を済ませてしまいました。
恐縮するツアー参加者の皆さんでしたが、本田教授や松元は「こういう時は素直にご馳走になるのが二世との付き合い方」との事で、全員がご馳走になりました。
夜間の運転をしなくなった二世が多いのですが、カネクニさんは「ボクは平気ですよ〜」と笑いながら車に向かって行くのですが、背筋がシャンと伸び矍鑠としており95歳というのが全く感じられません。聞くと、お母様も105歳まで長生きされたとか。
マウイのトムさんといい、長生きのGood Geneをお持ちのようです。
"A tour to meet a Nisei, and to interchange with a Japanese-American" first time.
We introduce Hawaii Island in two parts, because the content was too dense.

A big Anuenue appeared when we left Maui in the morning.
It gradually becomes double rainbow.
We head for Honokaa with the feet that arrived at Hilo Airport.
Although it was not on the schedule, We holoholo around the town of Honokaa. When Matsumoto visited the People's Theater, Dr. Keene, the owner, was sprinkling water on the plants in the garden.
Dr. has been since the screening of this film in 2012.
When Matsumoto told that "I came for a tour that meets Nisei to testify in my movie," Dr. said, "I will show you everything inside, please go to around the entrance!" Although it was before opening, it opened out for us It was.
Dr. showed us the lobby, the theater, the projecting room and the VIP seating, and at the end showed everyone up to Dr.'s private room.
On the occasion of screening in Hawaii in 2012, this film was screened at the People's Theater and was indebted to Dr.
Still, the management of the People's Theater remains strict, and we are thinking of something that this film can serve as a viable part of the People's Theater even a little. Dr. and Matsumoto promised to exchange mails on that matter and left for the People 's Theater.
We bought a lunch at TEX DRIVE INN famous for Malasada and go to house of "Tomoe Oketani-san (92 years old)".
Tomoe-san is a member who has participated since the establishment of the legendary quilt club "Ka Hui Kapa Apana O 'Waimea" who revived the Hawaiian quilt.
Until recently she was driving a car and she was told that Bon Dance is also dancing.
At the bottom of the four sisters, there were no money in the family, so the upper three sisters could only go to school until the seventh and eighth grade. She also gave up until the 8th grade, and told me that she was hired by the maid of the plantation manager's house and that she was allowed to go to school.
While asking Mrs. Tomoe's quilt work, we also heard stories about participating in Ka Hui Kapa Apana O 'Waimea. Some of the works took over 10 years.
Tomoe-san had prepared drinks, homemade pickles and desserts for our visit. We was glad about that thought, and the feeling that came to visit my grandmother 's home was also brisk.
Everybody said "Tome-san Kawaii~!! "
Although we was regret, we quit Tomoe's house and returned to Hilo to the screening of this movie being held at the University of Hawaii at Hilo.
We was in time for the end of the second time and we was watching the movie at the last part, but Hiroshi Arisumi-san who met on the previous day got into the word "I can not forget, about my friends ..." Then.
Matsumoto made a simple greeting after the screening.
The content says, "Why did I make this movie, a onlu one thing, many Japanese know the hardships of Immigrant of the Issei, but many Japanese do not know the diferentstyle hardship of Nisei. I though that it was "shame" as a Japanese with the same root and same blood, so I wanted to make this movie and let the Japanese know about this movie It was what I said.
After that, we encountered the Nisei veteran "Wataru Kohashi-san (94 years old)" who testified in the movie that came to the venue and we had dinner with another veteran "Isamu Kanekuni-san (95 years old)" .
Kanekuni-san always kept smiling and seemed to enjoy interactions with tour participants as well.
Professor Honda of Hawaii University and Professor Honda 's mother were also hosting the screenings. Professor Honda and his mother has always been acting together on 2012 Hawaii Island screening, so we will have never met for a long time.
Soon it is time to about finish, Kanekuni-san has completed accounting for all of them.
Everyone was excited tour participants, but Professor Honda and Matsumoto said that "It is a way to go out to dinner at this time is a way to get along with Nisei", so everyone was treated.
Although there are many second generation who have stopped driving at night, Kanekuni-san goes to the car with a smile saying "I am fine", When I asked, his mother also lived up to 105 years old.
It is good to be with Mr. Tom and we think Kanekuni-san have a good living Gene.
