View this post on Instagram #Repost @buffalofoodotaku It’s no secret I have a favorite restaurant in Toronto, because I tell just about everyone who asks... @actinoliterestaurant . Therefore, when I asked the staff at this world class establishment where they would go to dine and they answered @canisrestaurant , there was no choice but to give it a shot. Canis is a small, but intimate restaurant located on Queen West, only featuring a tasting menu of 6 courses and 3 desserts sprung from the uber-creative mind of Chef-owner, @chefjeffkang . As soon as the crusty sour dough arrived (the harbinger of any delicious meal) with delicious spreads of butter and carrot lovage whipped ricotta, we knew the meal would be memorable. The courses were completely unique and quite tasty like the beautiful duck liver tart frosted with fermented concord grape jelly and spiked with meticulously placed thyme leaves or a pork tenderloin served over a miso paste with charred scallions. The knock-out punch was the dish they are most known for, a dry aged, whole roasted duck. The meat was perfectly tender and delicious, covered in a duck jus that was just magnificent in its sticky-icky-ness. Yet, this dish was augmented by a duck heart with pickled spruce tips spiked on a stick cooked to mid-rare perfection overtly placed in the center of the table. As for the wines they featured mostly local vintages that were organic or biodynamic. While all of the wines were quite wonderful, we found the selection to be rather one dimensional (fruit forward wines seemed to be overarching theme), which also tended not to pair entirely well with some of the courses. Overall though, this was an incredible meal. And the greatest compliment I can give was that it echoed many of the points I adore about Actinolite. We left stuffed, slightly buzzed, and very happy. . . ⌨️ @josephleta . . #foodphotography #foodblogger #torontofood #buffalofoodotaku #foodtravel #travelforfood #gastronomy #foodporn #ontario #canis #pairing #delicious #course #instafoods #food #食べ歩き #トロント #wine #amazing #blogger #freelance #tasting #yum #beautiful #niagarawine #restaurant #dinner #torontoeats #instagram A post shared by Sadie Japanesey (@japanesey05) on May 28, 2019 at 3:11pm PDT

View this post on Instagram #Repost @buffalofoodotaku Spring has sprung and if you’re anything like us...you’ve been impatiently drudging through the other 3 seasons waiting on those fresh ramps (wild leeks) to pop. There’s nothing quite like their pungent oniony/garlicky kick with those leafy tops we adore in so many applications. However, one of the most unique applications I’ve seen derived from the depth of that rabbit hole Chef @jeanclaudevanhamme calls his mind, found locally at Black Sheep. . . He’s decided to ingeniously mix two of our favorite things...ramps and churros. Yes, he made ramp churros. I really think that says it all. 🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽 . . 📸:@japanesey05 📝:@josephleta 👌🐒🙇♀️ #Followus- @buffalofoodotaku 🍱🍕 #buffalofoodotaku #buffalo #buffalofood #instafood #foodporn #foodlover #buffalony #instagram #yummy #tasty #アメリカ生活 #食べ歩き #food #eat #gastronome #delicious #foodpic #foodgram #foodphotography #foodtravel #foodblogger #gastronomic #churros #ramps #blacksheepbuffalo #eatlocal A post shared by Sadie Japanesey (@japanesey05) on May 16, 2019 at 2:33pm PDT
