However, when I go to activate it accepts the product key, but then tells me 'Online activation did not complete successfully because the activation server is temporarily unavailable' I then try the 'Activation by phone' option and I enter the 54 digit installation id that that wizard is showing. The automated line tells me this id is invalid and is passing me to an operator.

Nine times out of ten, the phone just hangs up. On the one occasion that a real person did answer, they told me my product key must be wrong and transferred me to the Microsoft store (25 mins on hold). When someone from the Store answered, they confirmed my product key is perfectly fine and they are transferring me back to the 'Microsoft for mac activation team'.just ridiculous! Usually the phone then hangs up. So, I've been trying to sort this for three days now and it's a total mess. Anyone have the same issue and was able to resolve it?I'm about to give up and throw it in the bin.what a waste of money! Same issue, spent multiple times >2hrs on the phone, repeating the product-code and product-id more then 10 times and still no resolution.
2x I was speaking to someone from the Office for MAC support team and 2x the line got cut. Please sort out your call-center and assure IVR entered data is handed over to the next agent taking the support call. If you can't let me know, I'll help you out. It's part of my job and I am good AND professional about it. Not something I can say about my current MS Support experience. I hope people here can change that negative perspective and provide a solution that WORKS.
