Dec. 4, 1960: THE BEGINNING: Wellington Mara always had the NFL’s best interests in mind, but his recommendation for the first head coach of the expansion Cowboys would come back to haunt the Giants for years. Tom Belts,Scarves & Accessories Landry had resigned as the Giants’ defensive coordinator after the 1959 season to return Belts to his native Texas and work in private business. When Mara got word that the upstart AFL was courting Landry to coach its new Dallas franchise, he called Tex Schramm, who hired Landry as the first Cowboys coach. Landry didn’t win a game his first season but the Cowboys’ only non-loss that year was a 31-31 tie with the Giants Fashion Show Collections at Yankee Stadium. The next season, Landry got that elusive first win in the opener, then won 269 more, including a pair of Super Bowls.
